Well, I am officially graduated from my Master’s.graduated

It has happened so quickly that I haven’t fully been able to process it all. After two years of juggling full-time work and full-time school, however, my body has been telling me loudly that it is exhausted. Around 10am every day, I am ready for a nap!

But there is no time for naps. 😥  Last Saturday, I walked across that stage and then Monday night, Josh and I were on a plane headed to Denver. Josh had a job interview, and I tagged along so we could explore potential neighborhoods for our move. Also Josh had never been to Colorado…so this was my opportunity to introduce him to our new home (and hope that he’d like it!). Cue three days of a LOT of driving and mostly in circles–or should I say squares? We won’t have another opportunity to visit again until we move in August, but apartment hunting this far in advance doesn’t work very well. Between the whirlwind of exhausting drives, however, we got to spend some quality time with friends in Denver, and we had a number of fantastic meals. (Next Door Boulder makes an incredible burger.) It’s very crazy to think we will be moving to this completely different state in a few months and that I will be starting four more years of school.

For now, we just need to get through the rest of the summer.

Being graduated, I thought my life would finally slow down, but it has not. Instead everything feels out-of-place–my regular, reliable schedule of juggling school and work is gone. Though that schedule was frenetic, I at least had a rhythm going. Now I am trying to set up a new rhythm around my work schedule for the summer that will give me ample time to recover from the last two years, while fitting in a number of personal projects that have been set aside for a while. And, of course, I have to start packing up our apartment to move. In the meantime, Josh is fully occupied on his own MFA thesis work; he graduates in early August.

It never ends! That being said, it is a relief to have a couple of months without homework. I am loving the freedom, and I am trying to savor every day. I am also excited to bring back weekly movie nights at our place in Fullerton. Every week I screen a film (classic/indie/foreign) that I haven’t seen for whoever shows up, and then we discuss it together. They’re really chill evenings and a great way to watch films. Plus I try to make something yummy! That should begin in the next couple weeks; if you are interested in being included, let me know. There’s no commitment needed; come when you can for as long as you can.

I’ll be continuing to share about my journey into the world of being a Ph.D. student as well as writing about media and culture. If you don’t already, please subscribe below to the blog to make sure you don’t miss a post! Next post will be a review on the recent finale of one of my favorite shows The Good Wife. There will be spoilers, so hurry up and go watch it! And if you haven’t seen the show–well start watching.  😉
